As we approach the end of another year, I guess it is natural to look back and reflect on the events of the past year. It occurred to me this morning that remembering must be an ability given to us by our Creator. I know that you are probably saying, “There are things I my life I wish I could forget!” (Me too!) But even those hurtful, unpleasant things can be beneficial if we see them in the greater scheme of things. Romans 8:28 Personally, I think that not being able to remember is what makes Alzheimer so painful.
The reason I say remembering is a God-given ability is the fact that God’s Word repeatedly commands us to remember. I guess He sees how easy it is for we humans to forget.
- be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt… Deut. 6:12
- “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” Exodus 20:8
- “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers…” Hebrews 13:2
As we come to the end of this year: Don’t forget to remember.
