I have discovered that people tend to swing to extremes on just about any subject. Take the church for example. People take a Biblical teaching and if the pendulum swings too far left; people will tend to be legalistic. Galatians 5:4 On the other hand, if the pendulum swings too far right; people will tend misuse their freedom to live for themselves. Galatians 5:13
The fact is that the truth is usually found in the middle. The subject of same-sex marriage is the perfect example. Those who swing too far left; may become hateful toward those who see nothing wrong with it. After all, homosexuality is a sin! Right? Leviticus 18:22; 1 Cor. 6:9-10 Those who swing too far right; may not want to look the other way and condone sin.
How should we respond? The answer is in the middle. The truth is..
- Sinful behavior must not be condoned. Sin must be dealt with but not with a hateful, critical spirit. It is possible to hate the sin while loving the sinner. Ephesians 4:15 Isaiah 5:20
- Show the person involved in this life style love and acceptance. God loves ALL people. People who protest against gay with hateful banners will never get the opportunity to share their hope. 1 Peter 3:15
